Plan A - can I admit I'm the driver?

Sixth Anniversary First Post Combo Breaker
**update**
I emailed the retail park's site manager last evening at about 8pm with a slightly over the top complaint, emphasising the predatory nature of the parking company etc. By 6.30am i had received his reply. Absolutely refutes everything I had said, emphasised my responsibility to check the ticket is facing the right way (obviously I know this but accidents happen) - he stopped just short (but only just) of accusing me of having picked up a discarded ticket from the ground and displaying it upside down (despite me including a photo of my valid ticket!). But at the very end he cancelled the PCN as a gesture of goodwill! Huzzah, success! Thanks MSE Forum!
***

I have received a NTK after the pay & display ticket I had bought flipped over on the dashboard when I shut the door on a blustery day. I have read the Newbies thread (although I admit I'm actually more confused than when I started!)

I'm about to email the site manager of the retail park - is it okay to admit it was me driving the car in this contact? If they don't get the ticket cancelled and it goes further, will Britannia be able to find out from them?

(If I can be permitted a follow-up question, the official appeal process is an online form which requires me to declare who was driving - I assume if I do go down the appeal route, I will need to find an email or postal address?)

Thanks so much to all of you who give up your time and expertise to advise!)

You should complain about the PCN to the site manager as keeper, especially if the PCN arrived in the post, using the royal WE is acceptable rather than implying who was driving at this early stage

I don't believe that the online process requires it , although these companies do set traps for the unwary

The appeal options will be on the PCN and also on the website

Only use an email appeal if they actually allow it , many don't

Just say 'we' are horrified, etc.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

  • Thanks both.

The online appeals form definitely asks to define who was driving so I will need to look carefully at that before going any further. Hopefully the site manager will be able to help!

Did this alleged parking event take place in Scotland?

Then put THE DRIVER, unless you can carry on without filling it in

You aren't doing the appeal before the landowner complaint (that's PLAN A).

The parking industry is unregulated and makes up its own rules.

The parking company can ask for your inside leg measurement on the NTK if they want, but you are not obliged by any law to tell them, just like you are not obliged by law to identify the driver.

If you tell the landowner who was driving, they may well pass that on to the PPC, so the safest option is not to tell anyone.

Please show us both sides of the NTK, redact all personal information, but leave all dates showing. If it is PoFA compliant then it won't matter if the driver is identified, but if it is not PoFA compliant then you would be shooting yourself in both feet if you name the driver.
