Security cameras

Hi all
I'm looking into fitting cctv outside my house (so I can catch the next numpty to knock down my wall) but I don't really have much idea what questions to ask.
I know I want it to be subscription free and I know I want it to record locally (to some sort of hub) but beyond that I'm floundering. I don't want to spend a few £00 only to say afterwards "I wish I'd known that"!
Anyone got any hints or tips?
Thanks

Camera's deliberately positioned to cover areas outside the boundary of your home and the public street may create objections from neighbours under GDPR rules.1

Whilst this is clearly a factor to be considered during the siting of such kit I'm more interested at the moment in how to choose from the myriad of systems currently available.Vitor said:Camera's deliberately positioned to cover areas outside the boundary of your home and the public street may create objections from neighbours under GDPR rules.0 -

In the spot where I imagine I'd want to put a camera I already have mains power available - if needed. But if solar works it's certainly easier!Mnoee said:
I mentioned on the other thread I have a solar powered outdoor camera - the battery claims to last 4 months with no sun when recording 200 seconds of video per day. I don't know if you want 24/7 recording where solar wouldn't be most suitable, or if you're monitoring a busy area with constant motion, but it's way fewer ££'s/effort chucking up a small solar panel than hardwiring.GaryBC said:
Good question. I'd imagine wireless communication but mains powered (if I've got a camera up on a wall somewhere I'm not going to be wanting to be forever changing or charging batteries).pogg000 said:Wired or wireless?
Thing is, I've no idea how much actual filming the camera will be doing. I don’t know if it be within the capability of solar.0
