If she has a decent free anti virus and anti spyware progs on it in future she may be better protected in the future.

AVG has worked well for me but there are others out there.

That's true!

But what I like about that forum I linked to is that there is usually one helper running through a given problem that a poster may have, as opposed to a number of people coming in here (as in this thread) and all offering good but conflicting advice.

Especially for the OP and her friend, their instructions are clear and to the point. This is really important to people who don't know about PCs.

Don't get me wrong, this site is great and there are some people like yourself who know what they are talking about, but, due to the way it is set up, a new poster can't tell the difference between you, who actually knows what he is talking about, or me, who is just winging it:D .

On that site, it is much easier to distinguish the experts from the well intentioned :rolleyes:

Antivir has better detection rates if you were using that as the measured criterion.
