After our house move nearly three years ago my wife didnt update her Driving Licence so now I am wondering will she be fined? It totally slipped our minds.

If she updated online will she be fined £1000? I mean it asks for a date when the change took place so can't really say a few months back.

Really worried not sure what to do.

It took DVLA ages to update my OH's licence.  He sent it in, the sent it back to our new address with the old address on it.  He didn't notice for a few months but when he did he sent it back again and nothing came back.  After a month he queried it and was told it was likely lost.  More likely they hadn't updated it and sent it to the old address.  Paid for a new one and again was sent one at our new address but with his old address on.  Tried again and they finally got it right.  About 2 years in total, no fine.

More of a problem will be if some parking company has sent a PCN to the old address.

And I believe they will get the address from the V5C, not the driving licence (as they'll be writing to the registered keeper - they won't know who was driving).

So the OP needs to check if that has the current address and get it updated if not.

They use the registered keeper’s info for that not the driving licence. Hopefully she updated that, otherwise the major issue would be NIPs she had failed to respond too.

They don’t really care when the change took place, so use todays date. I’ve never heard of anyone being charged, let alone fined.

It becomes a problem if you get stopped by the police for some reason and it is discovered that way so get on and get it done!

Despite it being one of Martin's regular "save £1000" things, I also have never heard of anybody been fined for it, and I'm not convinced it would even get charged if you were committing another offence alongside it.

In the very unlikely event of being charged, that £1,000 is a maximum, reduced to £667 for a guilty plea.

The actual fine would be income-related - guideline is half a weeks net income, less 1/3 for G plea, plus 40% surcharge, plus costs of £90-ish.
