Home insurance claim about an old leak that was discovered recently
Hello folks,
I recently bought a house (this is my first month in). Soon after moving in, I realised that there is a leak coming from the top floor. I called a plumber for investigation and it appears that the shower is leaking from underneath the tray for a while. As a result, the floor (cheap wood board) has rotten underneath the shower. The plumber also pointed that there might be more damage to the rest of the floor, but they must remove the tiles to figure out, etc.
Their quote was a little bit more that £4000 with the possibility of more in case more damage has been done that they couldn’t figure out.
I have purchased the cheapest house insurance from quotemehappy.
I tried to claim but it was saying that the leak should be fixed by myself and they would only cover the damage that has happened to the house. Given that the damage has probably occurred before I got insured with them do you think it’s worth claiming anyway?
Thank you

It’s normal for insurance to only cover the damage cost rather than the repair itself. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.1 -

Insurance covers the damaged caused by escape of water not the actual the cause of the escape of water unless thats covered by Accident Damage or another insured peril.
Insurance also doesn't cover the progressive damage of an issue.... burst pipe that floods your kitchen is covered, failed grout that causes damage over 9 months isn't other than in certain circumstances and then it will be a case of estimating the original start of the problem1 -
thank you both for your commending0
