The driving ban is part of the sentence; so would be be appealing the sentence. Given your comment about being lucky, do you want to take a significant risk by appealing?

You say "i do not want to appeal the sentence", but I think that's exactly what you want. The ban is part of the sentence, and only a court can change that. However, AFAIK the time limit to lodge an appeal is 21 days (unless it's an alleged historical miscarriage of justice, which it isn't).

If I’m reading this correctly, then no you can’t. Although the first one is a little bit confusing, I’m reading it that you can appeal after two years for a ban that was under four years.

All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Dangerous Driving carries a mandatory disqualification of 12 months. The judge obviously believed your offence warranted more than the minimum.

As above, you will have to appeal the entire sentence, not just the ban so you run the risk of a harsher penalty. Also as explained above, only driving bans of four years or more can be shortened on application to the court.

You should also note that you will only be granted a provisional licence on completion of your ban and you will have to take an extended re-test.

I'd imagine the insurance cost after a ban for dangerous driving would be almost like another bad, ie prohibitively expensive. Have you had any dummy quotes based on when the ban ends?

You say your crime was so serious you're "lucky not to be in prison".  Maybe it's time to forget the idea of being in control of a motor vehicle.
I imagine that your insurance premium will be so high that taking taxi/Uber everywhere is cheaper than owning and running your own car.

Unfortunately I can't see any way to reduce the ban, or the insurance premiums later, so you're best trying to find other options to care for your mum.

What do you need to drive for in relation to caring for your mum?
  • Thanks everyone for your answers i might aswell wait another year and take the extended retest and pay the x10 insurance premium :(
