Promotional rate deal ending - can I get a new offer from existing provider?

Options
I've had a Barclaycard for the last 20 months or so with a promotional 0% interest free on purchases deal. It's due to finish next month and I will have cleared the balance. I've never missed any repayments.

I see Barclaycard have a 22 month 0% offer for new customers. I'd like to re-negotiate a new promotional deal.

Any advice/experiences on whether existing customers can get a new deal and how to do it?

You're generally better to go elsewehere and get a new card.

Barclaycard will make regular offers if they are willing to give you additional offers. I regularly get MT and BT offers from them, for a fee. If they aren't making you offers on the website or on the app, they are unlikely to give you anything.

Barclays will make offers to you periodically or constantly depending on how much they like you, often these aren't as good as the offers to new customers but they do vary from customer to customer. Barclays in general seems to have an odd opinion of me sometimes offering small things with very poor APRs and other times offering very large lending at exceptional APRs whereas Virgin CC consistently offers the same thing each and every month just rolled forward a month.

As above, Barclays used to give me loads, then stopped, then started again, I think when I was under 50% of the limit with my BTs, I am hoping they give me one around December time as I think my budget would benefit from extending a couple of other cards and keeping the money in savings for longer.

Do remember if you close the card, there is likely to be some period before you are classed as a new customer for offers but you could just use another provider.

Always check topcashback and quidco for cashback offers on new cards, do a soft search on the provider site and if they indicate you will get the card, then apply via the cashback site

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

  • I’ve almost paid off a balance transfer with Barclay and they are offering me 0% deals again, but they are not very good value so if I needed a BT ( though I don’t) I would look elsewhere for a cheaper one.

top cashback is a valid point and a good shout, had £25 for opening a Tesco card and £27 for HSBC, if your are specifically after a balance transfer Lloyds / Halifax have 27 month deals available .
