Copying photos from laptop to tablet

Any help would be appreciated please.
I am trying to copy photos from my laptop to an Amazon Fire 10 tablet which I have bought my Mum. I have set up Amazon Photos on the tablet, and managed to send one photo by email and one by bluetooth. I was hoping to be able to send a couple of hundred photos over and put these into folders for Mum to look at, but can't work out how to do it.
I have connected with a USB, but the laptop seems to want to import the photos from the tablet rather than the other way around. I have tried to drag photos across to where it shows the Fire on the left hand side but I get a red circle with a diagonal line through. I have tried under both 'photos' and 'pictures' with no joy.
Could anyone give me simple step by step instructions how to do this and save my sanity please?

Put them on an SD card on your laptop and insert into the Fire tablet

When you plug in the USB to the Fire, it makes a chime sound.pull down the top of the home screen and flick away the dozens of "useful" notifications and announcements until you eventually come to the one with a cogwheel "System-Connected as......"You might find it called "USB options" or something similartap it and it says tap for USB optionstap again and usb preferences apppearsNow setUSB- controlled by this deviceUse USB for- File transferThen on the pc you should see the fire in This PC- it looks like AGIMUS after he made his light friendly blue.wading in you can find the pictures folder and drag 'n drop from the PC.I've absolutely no idea how to eject the fire from the PC though, AFAIK you snatch the lead out and hope that neither one gets corrupted. My HD10 has updated to Fire OS 7.3.3.0 if yours is miles behind check for updates and let it update.Be careful, the fire has a miniscule memory unless you add a microsd for media storage. A few dozen kindle books and a video and it starts to slow down as the memory is full.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

Set up Amazon photos on laptop & upload.
