You can get much cheaper than that with smart meter tariffs.

Yes, you can say whatever you like, but they can ignore you and change it anyway.

Unfortunately if it's at the end of its certified life they have a legal obligation to change it.

Quite how you go about attempting to keep your tariff I don't know - the only thing I can think of would be maybe to ask if they can fit a refurbished meter that they support with the tariff?  Not a clue if there's a chance they'd say yes though.
(It's not that a smart meter can't support the tariff, it's that the companies choose not to use the smart meter data to bill legacy tariffs like yours.  This is a business decision they're allowed to make, regardless of the impact on customers.)

However it would be worth looking around at what smart tariffs are available and whether any of them would be suitable for you.

What percentage of your annual electricity is being charged at your off peak rate? How do you heat your home.

There have been a lot of changes since you were advised never to give this rate up and it is likely that you could do better on a different rate.

Hi, although that was a good deal a few years ago prices have come back down and it's now possible to get a better rate. So whilst I can understand your reluctance to change the meter, you're basing that on out of date information. You are going to have to change at some time and now is a good time to change because if you do you can take advantage of the price reduction that has been announced this morning.

Once you have changed you'll be able to choose from a wide range of tariffs and if you want help or suggestions about the best tariff to choose then you've come to the right place. There are lots of people here who will happily help you with that.

    Hi there @Millingtonp

Is your tariff ECO20:20 and which region are you in? Your off peak times are the same as our ECO20:20 tariff from EDF.

If so are you sure you are quoting the latest prices? I can't see any region on the EDF rate card with a 40p/15p cost.

As far as replacing the meter is concerned, we had a 5 port smart meter installed in May 2021 whilst with EDF and it fully supports the complex ECO20:20 tariff.
It has been successfully updated remotely each time the tariff costs have changed and works perfectly with the ECO20:20 tariff. The only thing that doesn't work is the little In House Display screen, but I can live with that.

So on our smart meter at least (an Itron EM425-UK25T) EDF can support your type of tariff.

You need to phone EDF and ask to speak to someone in their Complex Meter team. Their regular call centre staff are not well informed on complex tariffs and could give you incorrect information.
I found the complex meter team were really knowledgeable and were able to arrange for a suitable smart meter to be installed and for the ECO20:20 tariff to be set up correctly.

Aside from all the above, you should look at your usage as suggested by others, because another type of tariff may suit you better. In our case, ECO20:20 fits our usage and lifestyle very well.
