British/Scottish Gas 'Final Bill' a year after switching

Somewhat surprised to receive an email this week saying my 'Final Bill' was due on the 25th of May 2024. We switched to Octopus on the 13th May 2023! So surprised I spent a couple of minutes thinking it was a scam email.

I had a "final statement" from them on 27th May 2023 and they took the payment by Direct Debit on the 12th June. Have heard nothing from them since until this week, almost a year later.

Have just spent some fun time talking to 3 different representatives on their phone support and all they can say is essentially that some debit was 'lost' when they transferred me to a new billing system last year and that's why this £6.54 wasn't included in the "Final statement". And also that this extra bill was generated on the 19th of June last year after the "Final" statement.

Have asked for them to email me their explanation because it makes no sense to me why it's taken them a year to get in touch about it.

I'll pay it, because it's so little. But what a seriously incompetent company British Gas are. It all seems a bit dodgy to me.

(In my defence I never chose to switch to them, that was done by the Ombudsman when People's Energy collapsed).

Thanks for reading my rant.
