Learner driver insurance advice

My son turns 17 next week and I already got his provisional license so he could start driving on his birthday, but now I'm trying to get insurance, they won't accept it as it's before he turned 17?? Surely if he can get the license at 16yrs for moped etc, it should still be valid? I'm confused why it won't be accepted and what I do??

Are you trying to insure him on a moped?

You should be able to forward date it for his birthday when he will be 17

I don’t think that’s the same licence or at least it won’t have the correct entitlement
you can only get a provisional car licence at 17

So you can only start car insurance from his 17th birthday - the day his car/motorbike (rather than moped) entitlement kicks in
