In fact it will save you money if you're one of many that spread the premium payments over 12 months.DullGreyGuy said:It's illegal for a company to charge extra for paying by a personal credit card.
You'll pay interest spreading the payments over the year as it's just a good old loan.
This interest can be as high as 40%.
Which? APRs up to 40% for monthly car insurance payments (motorfinanceonline.com)
If you can apply for a 0% spending credit card, pay it on that.
Then just set up a standing order each month to pay it within 12 months.
Most 0% cards have longer 0% periods, usually 20 months or so, this means you can usually use the same card two years running before ditching it and applying for another.
Just make sure you pay the minimum each month and don't run this years tax over into next year and you're quids in.
As car insurance has shot up recently, the savings can be quite large.
