Does anyone know why some banks do not appear in one's credit file with Experian or Equifax? If these records are partly there to prevent fraud should all banks be on there?

There's a third - TransUnion. Check there if you're missing something from the other 2.0

You need to check all 3 of your credit reports. Not all lenders report in to (or check) all three CRAs.0
