standard mobility car tax reduction

Options
After some advice for my oh - he receives standard rate PIP for both mobility and living. We've just realised he is entitled to a reduction in his car tax. We currently pay for our vehicle tax monthly and understand to claim the reduction we must pay up front. We're more than happy to do that but not sure how - do we send the required paperwork and a cheque for half the amount - less what we've already paid in monthly payments for this year? Or half the full annual amount? It all seems unnecessarily complicated. I wonder if anyone has any experience with this. Thanks in anticipation.
