Well..... I have just jointed my bargain chickens (left the the breasts on the bone ready for SCing) .... cos I'm not sure if a whole one would fit in.... :D

After that... I'm overwhelmed:o , I need a lie down before I check out the indexed SC threads.

Seriously, thanks for the heads up on this one.

I am sure once you have had your lie down, the thoughts will come rushing to you.

I am going to try soup, and rice pudding next.

I do hope it is ok for you :o

  • Have just updated signature tonight after having to buy some milk today. This was our first month doing the challenge and we were spending over £500 per month previously, so although I don't think we will quite reach our £200 budget, I don't think we will be too far out and we will be really chuffed with that. We know that 2 takeaways early in the month which were post Christmas treats have made a big dent in the budget, so we are still optimistic that we can continue to make these reductions regularly. I know we will still spend at least half of what we were doing and we have eaten really well, and some different things that we haven't eaten before as well.
Lemon cake went down well with kids and they have requested another one. Luckily I still have 2 lemons from Christmas left, so they won't go to waste either!!
Keep up the good work everyone!!
  • RICE PUDDING - that's the third one.;) !

Nearly at the end of the budget, but beyond a loaf of bread, there's nothing I need to buy. And if it came to it, I could always bake my own...

Can't believe pay-day is only a week away. Where did January go?
Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realise that we cannot eat money.

  • Well I feel smug as I budget £35 a week for all our weekly shopping including cleaning products, personal care and laundry goods. for my husband and I and 2 cats. We have a dog but buy a large bag of food once in a while and pay for that separately.
I achieve this by using a spreadsheet to plan my spending and therefore I can spend more on groceries when bargains are available and still keep within my £35 a week. We cook all our meals ourselves and don't eat any ready meals. We stock up on things available on such offers as "buy one get one free" and cook things like soup and pasta sauces in large amounts and freeze. We also buy whole chickens, divide them up and freeze and make stock for soup with the carcass and the wings. We also get beef bones free from the butcher and fish bits and heads from the fishmonger to make stock for other soups. We buy large amounts of veg when available cheaper and put in soups and freeze. We eat well, we eat cheap and we know exactly what is in our food.
