Had to nip to Morrisons to get stuff for dh for his canteen he runs tomorrow (special order from the staff for chicken caesar and thai chicken wraps) anyway we needed salt and I thought I would pick up the teabags on offer (was going to get the Friday but just in case I run out before then)

In total spent £2.40 for 80 t bags, 6 kids yogurts, salt, 2 shwartz packet mixes (bogof), grapes (kids all love these and only got a small pack)..

Really pleased I managed to stop myself picking up anything else (especially wine :o )

Good work all, thanks for all the tips...

Will hopefully manage a nsd tomorrow and Thursday as all meals in and got milk and bread....(I have been freezing the Pure Tesco stuff with not problems either)...

On another note, bought a breadmaker today for £22 ( a morphy richards compact one) so looking forward to trying that out when it arrives, especially trying my hand at pizza bases and naan bread etc....yum

  • Successful day. Needed to pop into supermarket for 2 items and brought......

    2 items!!!! :T :T :T

I'm very pleased, I resisted all urges to impulse buy. It did help that it was Tesco metro (with limited products) and I rushed in and out.

We had paprika chicken for tea (one of Delia's adapted for slow cooker) so just needed some veg and soured cream to go with it.

Did find a receipt for sweeties from yesterday in my purse which I had managed to instantly forget about. DD2 had immunisations yesterday so did spurge to make her (well, me) feel better. However, still not doing too badly.

Now, just need to figure out what to cook for tea tomorrow night that only involves items have in..... I WILL NOT go to the supermarket (it's the only way for me not to spend :o).
  • Hi All

I am really chuffed with how little i have spent on my shopping this month. I have been really good and watched every penny.

What do you guy's do with any money that you save / don't spend at the end of the month?

  • Hmmm, I posted yesterday but it's disappeared. I spent £50.27 in Tesco at the weekend so not brilliant but better. I need more potatoes and milk - will try to hang off a bit :rotfl: .

We've not saved a lot off our weekly shops so far but I've cut out most of the weekday visits to the supermarket. We've also eaten much nicer food than we usually have - so I am happy just now.

    Well done everyone :T .
  • Just to join in on the irish grumblings :) I too think our stuff is a lot more expensive. At least in Belfast we do have a fair bit of choice of supermarkets - asda, sainsburys, tesco and lidl as well as home grown Dunnes. But I too find that the 10p bargains don't ever happen - at best you get something that was expensive at £1.99 marked down to a more realistic £1.50 or thereabouts. I think too that historically we've paid over the odds for a lot of produce. So grumble over, can't imagine how much worse it would be shopping in the back of beyond :) tho probably much nicer living there...

I too am one of the sick brigade. On the bright side I feel so yucky I can't eat, but on the down side that means that my pre-prepared lunch and dinner might have to be binned by the time I feel ready to eat again.

Oh and Debs welcome. For two of us my normal spend is around £150-£180 but I'm trying to have an extra frugal January. I'd say first step is to go through and see if you can estimate how much you've been spending to date (eg via bank statements etc) - that should give you a benchmark to measure from. Good luck.
  • Hi belfastgirl and mean marie and and others lurking from Ireland - not to ignore everyone else!!

Mean Marie, Im north Kerry so I do shop a lot in Tescos in Tralee. Lidl have now opened in Listowel and they are building an Aldi there at the moment.

I do think the food is very good quality over here so I suppose that makes up for the higher price. You just have to look at lot more carefully at your budget to make it stretch. My butchers does a fantasic deal on mince - 1 lb for 99cent - it features highly on my menus. He also does a scheme where everythime you spend more than €14 you get a stamp.Once you have 10 you get €10 worth of free meat:T . I have 10 stamps and am hanging on until I am completly broke b4 cashing in.

I have also found out 2 things this week which will save me a fortune long term. My car is hopefully suitable for bio-diesel and so is my DH van. The guy just needs to check under the bonnets. This means we will only pay 84.7 cent per litre whch will save us 30pc of the fuel costs. We spend over €600 between us per month:eek:

Also , after laughling so much about the - my cat wont do MSE- I tried our indoor cat onn dry food again and she ate it- Go Sox Go!!:j

The other thing to be said the scenery is stunning - not that you can see it with the slashing rain but Spring is coming:j and we will be able to appreciate it again soon.

Where we are building you can hear the ocean in the evening when everything is quiet and peaceful so there are definatelt positives.

There , I feel better now
