Asian Hornets
Just in case anyone is unaware there's a different species in the UK and it's been asked to report them.
I haven't yet looked into it much but there are posters in our local supermarkets and now on the BBC news.
I must investigate further tonight but in the mean time here's the link
While it poses no greater threat for humans to be stung it but it can pose a threat to local eccology and they feed on our native bees and wasps.
So if you like your honey as much as I do - keep a look out
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Report them to who?ETA
If you suspect you have seen an Asian hornet you should report this using the iPhone and Android app ‘Asian Hornet Watch’ or by using our online report form. Alternatively, e-mail alertnonnative@ceh.ac.uk. Please include a photograph if you can safely obtain one.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.3 -
Thanks Elsien.
I did a,quick post from my laptop before an appointment so didn't have time to go further.
Seems they kill our pollinators, not only bees - but I like my honeyI can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Thanks. The problem is, What % of people are able to ID a British hornet? It's very likely a lot of those will be reported too. Most folk may react badly to seeing either, up close and personal, but the hornet native to these isles is quite docile as a rule.
