My wife in her 50s is in great position of a £115k salary with £20k bonus this year. So looking to put £35k into pension (still with her total AA limits) to benefit from tax relief as she approaches retirement. But company won’t salary sacrifice bonus. Does this make difference ie can she just monthly salary sacrifice over the year and up to the £35k figure enjoying same level of NI & tax relief?

yes - take the bonus and use it to fund bigger sal sac contributions over the year from normal salary (as in spend the bonus to make up for the lower take-home that would result from upping the normal contributions)I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Pensions, Annuities & Retirement Planning, Loans

I am in the same position with my employer as a sales commissioned employee whose monthly salary can vary considerably . The simple answer to your question is yes, she should salary sacrifice as much as possible out of her basic salary on a monthly basis up to an annual maximum of 60K total to maximise the NI and tax relief savings. She might even get her employer to throw in to her pot the NI savings they get from salary sacrifice as well. My employer generously does this.1
