Former Halifax Employee Share Scheme Losses.

I participated in the Halifax Employee Share scheme many years ago and had the maximum monthly amount deducted from my salary (£250 per month) from when the scheme was first launched until I was made redundant in March 1998. (I believe the Halifax floated on June 2nd 1997 but not sure when employee share scheme started) I think you got to buy the shares at 20% discount. These shares converted to Lloyds Shares in January 2009.
The shares have made large losses and I am probably 'clutching at straws' but hoping to sell them to offset the loss against a future Capital Gains Tax bill. The problem is I have no evidence of the initial acquisition costs. I have contacted my former employer who have not replied. Equiniti could not help me either.
The current indicative value is £590. I would be grateful to know if anyone has been in a similar position or has any idea how I can quantify/evidence the loss. I am not sure what evidence HMRC would require. Many thanks

Do you have your payslips from this time?

If you submit a Subject Access Request then they're legally obliged to provide your data within a month - that's no guarantee they'll still have anything relevant but if you make it clear exactly what you're looking for then it should at least resolve that one way or the other:evsue said:I have contacted my former employer who have not replied.

I was about to respond similar (and that for me in a similar position, albeit with a different employer, I could access all the info via the EquatePlus portal) - but then I looked that the OP was looking to go back to pre-1998. I can’t imagine an SAR is going to bring up much but nothing ventured……eskbanker said:

I cant get a full breakdown as I closed the account a couple of months ago on leaving
ETA this went back to mid 2000’s when I joined the scheme
