Dell refund woe

Has anyone out there had problems receiving a promised refund from Dell? They are expertly giving me the run around, never getting back to me, sending me round in circles to customer services when I try to speak to a human, 'raising tickets', 'reaching out', asking me to be patient. After months of to and fro they promised me a refund within 5-7 business days on the 6th May. I'm still waiting. I would warn everyone contemplating a purchase that their customer service is the worst I have ever experienced, deliberately frustrating a once loyal, long standing customer.

Why are you getting a refund and how much?

The saga has been going on for over a year now. My laptop developed faults under warranty so Dell replaced it. The replacement then overheated, you couldn't touch it. I returned both laptops for an agreed refund, 3.5k.

    Ok.

Have you got it in writing (an email or text will do) that on 6th May they promised you a refund of c £3500 to be paid within 7 days?  So they are now nearly two weeks late?  Plus this in total has dragged on for over a year?

If so then I'd suggest you send a them a Letter Before Action (aka a Letter Before Claim) giving a brief outline of the situation, giving them no more than 21 days to pay the refund, and telling them that if they haven't paid the full amount by then that you will issue a court claim against them without further notice for the full amount plus your court fees (£205 in your case I think).

If they haven't coughed up by the deadline you need to decide if you want to issue a claim.  Depends on whether or not you want to keep on being fobbed off by them.

If you do end up having to issue a claim, don't forget to include your court fees in the claimed amount.

See here:  Make a court claim for money: Make a claim - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

You can google letter before claim (or action) to see examples
