    Don't do what I did, someone in here said it would be a good idea to invest in mobico last year so I put 20k into a stocks and shares ISA and currently 50% down
    Normally on this forum, the advice is not to invest in individual shares, unless you are knowledgeable in this area.
    Even then the advice would normally be to invest in a portfolio of shares, not just one.

    So I would guess the 'someone in here' was not a regular poster.

    Someone here said that? I couldn't find a post about investing in that company (other than your own) but perhaps it was deleted by the forum team for being a terrible suggestion or it was sent to you in a PM by someone knowing they'd get shot down in flames for suggesting something as wreckless as that in a public post.

    @Alistair31

    You took a thread where people were making suggestions for fun, not real, speculations, and used that to inform your investments?! Definitely not a good approach, especially given people in that thread were pointing out that such speculations were liable to blow up in your face if used for real!

    As mentioned above, that was a thread started by someone interested in what wild punts people would take with throw-away money "just for a fun discussion", and there were clear warnings in the discussion about the potential consequences. I am certain that Alistair31 did not and would not make such a recommendation to you if you'd asked where to invest your S&S ISA allowance last year.
  • It was my fault as I made the purchase I fully accept that, just mentioning that someone mentioned it as being a good punt that's all.

    There was one about how Cineworld was a good investment aswell

    Crypto...blah, blah, blah...AI...blah, blah, blah...insert buzzwords of choice...and hey presto, spectacular returns just like that.  They're ridiculously cheap to buy right now, especially if you commit at today's never-to-be-repeated special offer price, let me forward you my wallet details....

    Needs to be spoken in a Martin Lewis-y style of voice...

    You are quite correct. Context is everything.

    Looking back, I made a few pounds trading National Express. £137.37 to be precise. I gamble with less than 1% of my portfolio when it comes to single stocks.

    Throwing £20k at something that some random person on the internet mentioned is pure madness.
