Incorrect date of travel

Hi,
I'm new here but I’ve a friend who put the wrong date in when booking with Brittany Ferries in January.  Instead of putting in a date in July they left the month as January and of course Brittany Ferries won’t reimburse them.  Can they claim on their travel Insurance or a credit card for the wrong date?

    no why could they ?

edit: well I suppose they could if the travel insurance policy contained a clause "we will reimburse you if you accidentally enter the wrong date of travel"

What does their travel insurance policy say? (I'm pretty sure it won't cover user error).

    Ditto for credit card.

They must have thought they were getting a fantastic July deal with January prices.

I can't imagine how this wouldn't have been a good indication that something wasn't quite right

Certainly not on credit card. As the crossing was available.

No. They have no right to a refund. Only a good will gesture from Brittany Ferries if they are willing.

It clearly asks you to verify the dates before booking so they only have themselves to blame and could have used their ferry booking in January if they wanted to.

Did they not notice the HUGE difference in price?!?!
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

To claim on a credit card the company would have had to breach the terms of the agreement... so what has Brittany Ferries done wrong that you think breaches the contract? Also each ticket would have to be over £100, which may or may not be the case.

To claim on insurance you will have to show an insured peril has occurred, like you are too ill to travel or your train to the airport breaks down... which peril do you think has occurred?

There's a reason why websites show you multiple times what you've requested and you have to confirm each time that its what you want. Unfortunately this is user error and you aren't protected from yourself.

Has your friend asked BF if they can change the date to a July one ? instead of just asking for their money back.

I wouldn't think that has a remote chance of working since the original date has now passed, I can't see any company giving you a free trip if you failed to turn up for a trip a few months earlier.

You certainly would have thought so... that said we did once turn up at the airport to discover the Mrs had left her passport in the other jacket she'd planned to wear but switched at the last minute. Too far from the airport to go home and get it and back again, the check in agent just waved us off and said come back when we have it.

Called the airline, had booked directly, after getting back home in a very expensive taxi and was very surprised that they allowed us to move the flight free of charge even though clearly our fault and the flight by then had flown. Was fully expecting to have to buy a new outward ticket and just hoped that the return was still usable.

Dont ask you dont get but certainly dont hold your breath.

I agree. We assume that the booked travel date was January 2024, could it not have been for January 2025? Details are somewhat lacking.
