Migration to UC, when to start the claim...

Options
Hello,

My deadline to claim for UC under the WTC migration is the 13th of June.
My next TC payment is on the 11th of June.

Would the best idea be to start my claim online and fill out the different sections.
Then submit it on the 11th June, or is it better to get it filled out now and submitted?

Thx

You can pick any date you like as long as it's before the deadline.
Decide what date each month you want your UC to be paid and then submit your claim SIX days before that.
Your monthly AP (asssessment period) will then run from the date you claim to the day before that the next month, with payment 7 days after that AP end. (Or Friday if the payment date falls on a weekend/BH).
Some like to keep their UC payment date well seperated from their monthly work payday, so they have a UC payment between paydays (and in case of any late reporting of their works pay to the taxman and thus to UC)
I guess that you are wanting to get your TC payment before claiming UC though, so claim as soon as you have it.
It doesn't take long to do the UC claim form, 20 to 40 mins for most people.

When is your claim 'submitted' - the date you start or when you have input all the stuff that is asked for?
    I think....

You fill in the online questions, then click 'submit' once you've done them all.  The claim starts when you click 'submit'.

As far as I am aware most people do the UC registration and claim all in one go, hitting 'submit' at the end.
As long as you have your basic information to hand then any documents etc. that may be needed can be followed up later, there is a month and a week to sort stuff like that out before the first payment is made.

I had to fill in bank account details for  30+ accounts and then sign everything off for self and DW so it wasn't that straight forward and took a few sessions...

Really? How many people entitled to Income Related benefits would have 30+ bank accounts?
I'd imagine that having that many accounts would raise serious questions by itself.

30+ bank accounts?  :o I have 2 and that's about as much as I can deal with. I have to ask when on earth do you need or even want so many bank accounts?

I only have 2 accounts at most. A current account and a business account as a self employed/sole trader.
That's more than enough for my brain to handle. Also, the accountant emailing me every other week, about the bank statements for '23/24.

Whilst not wishing to speak for @michaels it's perfectly possible to just use one main bank account whilst also having a dozen or more other bank accounts sitting empty for the majority of the time, but doing just enough (cycle some money through them, pay some money into savings accounts via debit card or direct debit) to generate the many benefits they offer for simply holding them.

Quite correct for example lloyds give me 6 free cinema tickets each year, Halifax give me £5 per month etc.  I do have savings beyond the 16k limit (stoozed mortgage) but will receive transitional protection for 12 months.
    I think....
