Download Speed ??

Hi, when i am downloading music/film for personal use why does the download speed change a lot.
For example today my speed is 3 kb/s - 30 Kb/s and the same time yesterday is was like 200 - 300 Kb/s. Yesterday i downloaded a 700MB file in just over an hour. I have 1MB broadband ? today its taking ages ??

It could be due to contention (possibly 49 other users using the same connection as you at busy times) or the server that you are downloading from may be busy or any link in the chain from you to it.

What isp are you with? companies like BT and Virgin amongst others use trafic shapeing during peak hours which can kill download speeds

Its not really about your down load speed etc but the persons speed thats uploading if they upload at 3 kb/s you cant download it quicker than they upload.... you'll find some more popular progs films etc have more people that use file sharing and alike... also differnt time of the day more people using the net and different parts of the world
