Faulty Boiler

I’m after some advice regarding my boiler. I had a boiler supplied and fitted by BG back in June 2016, Since then I have had various covers with BG Homecare and always ensured my boiler has received an annual service. Late last year I switched cover as the BG policy had gone up to a ridiculous level and moved to Hometree. Today I have had boiler serviced by an engineer appointed by Hometree and he has issued me with a Gas Safe warning as he says when the boiler was installed the flue pipe has not been sealed properly and that there is insufficient clearance between the boiler and the gas pipe. Now of course any work to rectify this is not covered by my HT policy as they state this is either an installation issue or a pre-existing issue.

I have all the paperwork from the installation of the boiler and all service reports from British Gas engineers and none have stated an issue, so my question is where do I go from here? Do I press HT and insist that I can’t be a pre existing issue as I have all the paperwork confirming all has been done with the boiler or do I pursue BG and insist that every service I have had since installation (and the installation) should have identified this issue and brought it to my attention.

Any help/advice greatly appreciated

Can you get another gas safe engineer to check it and provide a report? It might be that it was done to required standards when installed, but won't meet new regulations.

Thanks,  great advice re getting a second opinion but I would like to think that every BG engineer that has serviced the boiler from 2017 onwards would ensure that it was compliant with any updated regs

The regs can be different for new installs versus existing ones. Maybe the engineer that gave you the warning is treating it as a new install, for them to accept cover for it.

Edit. I'm not a gas engineer and don't claim to understand the regulations, so maybe someone who does will come along and comment.

When I moved into my current flat, my boiler engineer said that he couldn't pass my boiler because he couldn't see the flue.  Regulations much have changed in the 10 years before I moved-in, but I had to pay for an inspection hatch to be put into my ceiling.
