Thunderbird gmail issue

I checked my pop.gmail using Thunderbird early this morning, all good - then later in the morning it wanted me to log into gmail.
I was a little confused as I have 2 gmail accounts.
Anyway, I logged into the one and everything worked fine after that.
Apart from the 2nd account which just gives an error message
<<The STAT command did not succeed. Error getting message number and sizes. Mail server pop.gmail.com responded: [AUTH] Invalid credentials.>>

I've googled away and checked setting many times but alas, to no avail.

Can anyone help?

Looks like you've go the wrong password for one of the accounts.  Try accessing via the webmail

Pretty sure with gmail, you have to authorise Thunderbird with an app specific password.

Password (and everything else) worked fine at 8am, but was then broken at 11am - I hadn't closed TB or anything else.
Webmail works fine and I can access everything on my android phone using K9 mail app

I suspect that's what popped up at 11am - did it for the one account but it won't pop up for the second a/c.

I've updated TB, rebooted PC - just a bit stuck!

    Hey,
I've been getting the same STAT command error for a few days. I've had it a couple of times before but it went away with a Thunderbird update..not this time :-(
I looked at the like you posted but I still can't get it to work.  :#. What setting did you specifically change if you don't mind saying.
    Thanks

I just followed the google link at the end of my previous post, which gave me a numerical (IIRC?) password to put into TB instead of my 'real' password

Ok, I tried and couldn't get it to work. Then I suddenly remembered what I did last time...I went into Thunderbird Settings> Privacy Settings and removed the stored password for the account in question. Then when I did an email fetch, it came up with a Google authentication box and a yes/no warning on my phone. After accepting it works again. I see the password is a random generated string but I never actually had to input it.
