We had a similar scenario and a neighbour had a timber acoustic fence. They used a sound engineer and had to get planning permission as it was 3m high but it looks great and works wonders. They got it from https://www.jacksons-security.co.uk/acoustic-security-barriers
We had the same sound engineer that they used and he said that it won’t make as much difference. It is because we are stepped back from the road a little more and on a corner. The sound engineer told us that the noise we are getting is coming down the road from a longer distance and bouncing off the house. Our neighbours were struggling with the noise directly from the road and this is why the fence worked.
It did cost just under £1000 for the report and we are gutted that the engineer did not think the acoustic fence would work as well but it is worth speaking to a sound engineer before.
