RAC member ship help
Afternoon all,
I put a compliant into RAC as they were still taking money, and the responce was I took a contract on November 2021, I've now got a letter from RAC saying I'm on an 18month contract and because I've cancelled I owe them money 😳.

What exactly do I do with this one, it looks like they are trying to fleece more money out of me.
Please help
Regards
James

Confused, an 18 month contact would have expired in May 2023, so how could you still be in contract?0

Automatic renewal?TadleyBaggie said:Confused, an 18 month contact would have expired in May 2023, so how could you still be in contract?0 -
Yes I'm confused to, surely they can't automatically renew you. It's a contract, you have to agree to it?0
-
Of course they can automatically renew it if that was what the T&C's state that you will have signed up to. You have to opt out of the renewal, not into it in those circumstances.jblakes said:Yes I'm confused to, surely they can't automatically renew you. It's a contract, you have to agree to it?
The question is whether that signs you up to another 18 month term.
You would have been sent a renewal reminder last year prior to the automatic renewal either or to both a physical address or email. Are these both up to date for the account?0 -
Yes both up to date. I never received anything about renewal which is what threw me when I noticed money was still coming out of my account0

But you agree to it up front, you agree to a contract thats 18 months long and will automatically renew continuously until such time as you tell them to stop.jblakes said:Yes I'm confused to, surely they can't automatically renew you. It's a contract, you have to agree to it?
For insurance products, there is a requirement for them to notify you in advance that the policy will be renewing. For most other products there is no legal requirement for them to inform you unless their T&Cs state that they will. Breakdown cover is one of those things that can be constructed as insurance or as non-insurance and cannot remember off hand what RAC's breakdown cover is.0 -
From memory of having a RAC breakdown cover. It's all online in your user area.Life in the slow lane0
