Possible lost account with Halifax....

Hi there
I'm wondering if someone out there can help.
A LONG time ago (around 2010), myself and my mum opened a special savings account at the Halifax. We were trustees for the account in my daughters name.
They never sent me bank statements but my mum (different address) did manage to find an old statement that had been sent to her.
Upshot is, when the special rate ended, or after a certain period of time (we can't find the exact answer to this), we think the original account was transferred to a different account. (It's all a bit vague because the Halifax are being rather vague with me!). We've managed to ascertain that the original account was closed. But neither my mum nor myself remember closing it, and neither of our bank accounts show a large amount being deposited from that Halifax account. I can't get any info from them, as to who closed the account, where it was closed, is the account floating about in my daughters name etc etc. If I call up, they aren't able to tell me any details about a closed account, and need to go into a branch. If I go into a branch, all they can/will tell me is that the account was closed. No idea by who or where. This seems totally illogical to me.
My daughter turns 18 in June, and this account was set up to give her the money on her birthday. How can I get them to search their records? I can't do a Gretel search with her name because she's not 18 yet.
Any ideas?
