    My husband is a joiner and he believes that the contractor is trying it on. New tax year and trying to balance out their books? It is a bit doggy but as you say his word is against mine. Good advise on the 50% compromise and I might suggest it. X fingers lets see what happens.

    Has he made any attempt to actually justify the higher figure?  I can perhaps understand his reluctance to (re)issue quotes, invoices, etc, but surely he must have made some attempt to show his workings rather than plucking a suspiciously round figure out of thin air?
