I placed an online order for a Nintendo Wii on the 17th November and was guaranteed delivery by the 15th December. Payment of £223.24 was taken form my account on the 8th December. When the Wii didn't arrive I attempted to make contact vai phone but the number no longer connected. Attempts to email were met with an automated response claiming Streamline Merchant services (the company processing the online payments) had withdrawn their services and thus were holding our money and it was their responsibility to refund. Unsurprisingly they disagree.
It would seem fraud has been committed on a national scale (refer to the forum group, there is also a large one on Amazon) and if we are to go off our order numbers it would seem close to 5000 people have been scammed and if the average price is £250, thats over 1 million pounds fraudlently obtained. Manchester Police which where very rude and none helpful & Trading standards are involved due to the high number of claims and there has been alot of media coverage, both TV and press but yet still no one seem's to be really interested.
I paid via a Visa Debit card. I understand this card does not offer the protection of a credit card but Visa cards (including Delta and Electron) are covered under the cards "goods not received" provision and you can make a chargeback. You need to push for it but the right is there. Banks such as Nationwide, Natwest and Lloyds TSB have issued refunds. My bank, Halifax, have been most UNHELPFUL and the woman in the call centre was not even aware of chargeback. The customer should request that the card issuer dispute the transaction under the charge back arrangement. The card issuer should then make a claim in effect against the merchant acquirer. So far they have not done this but are sending me some 'forms'.
