Halifax Bank

I used to bank with the Halifax (only because my local TSB closed) and had an account with them for a few years but then I started to have problems in that their cash points were always broken either that or the sun shone on the screen so you couldn't see it so when I went to the counter to withdraw money I was told to use the bloomin' cashpoint. After a year of putting up with shoddy service I closed my account with them and moved to First Direct.

I have now been receiving bank statements on my old Halifax account saying that there is 57p in it - I have written, telephoned and even sat in the blasted branch and I cannot get this 57p back because they say I no longer have an account with them. I have no idea where this 57p came from and as it is mine they should give it back. What is even worse, I have today had a credit card statement for a Visa card - a card which was terminated at the same time as the bank account (I did both in writing) - I haven't had a Halifax Visa Card since 2003! They claim that I have £4K in credit - but who cares, I have no intention of spending it because a) I haven't got a card and b) I don't bank with them any more. I am at my wits end with them.

Has anyone got any ideas on how I approach these wretched people?

Horace no disrespect but all that for 57p  think about how much the phone call cost, how much the stamp was and finally how much time you have wasted chasing 57p.

You got a credit card statement saying you have £4k in credit, you don't want it, you don't have the card surely the best thing would be to shred the statement.

In writing, using their official complaints procedure.
