Deposit query

I am having my poly carb conservatory roof replaced. The contractor wants 25% deposit then 95% on the first day of installation then the remainder on completion. Is this reasonable?

Deposit sounds ok, taking it to 95% before the work is done doesn't unless it a 1 day job... not enough skin left in the game for them to be bothered doing the job well0

I wouldn't proceed on that basis personally. No incentive for the contractor to finish the work to a high standard. 25% deposit maybe but otherwise I would pay on satisfactory completion or when any building control sign off was complete, whichever is the latest0

In another thread a window installer wanted something similar and it turned out they had cash flow issues. Most posters said they only paid window installers once the job was done.0
