Forgotten pet insurance policy need advice please

Hi.
About 10 years ago, I must have taken out an insurance policy with lifetime cover, for one of my cats.
This only came to light at the weekend when I was going through my regular payments and noticed I had more policies than pets.
My email address that was used when I took out the policy was defunct about 9 years ago when the storage ran out and I could no longer send or receive emails. To my knowledge, the company the policy is with has never written to me as in sent me any postal correspondence, and have automatically renewed the policy year on year. That's 10 years worth of premiums with no claims.
My cat has been insured with another company all these years but the policy isn't as good and only covers each condition for 12 months. This is the policy I've been claiming against but with multiple long term medical conditions, I am seriously out of pocket.
I know that this is mostly my own error, but does anyone work in insurance and know if I'd be entitled to a refund of all my premiums, or, be entitled to claim the costs that the other insurance policy didn't cover? The monthly premium is now £40!
Any advice much appreciated.
Thank you.

There is normally a time limit from the date of the pet illness after which you have to submit a claim. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.1 -
Just wonder if they would still want to insure as you have not updated them with your pet‘s conditions (that led you to claim on the other policy). Also I am not sure you can have 2 policies on one cat - would it then cause problems over who is going to pay for claim - they both may decide to cancel their policies. Worth reading terms and conditions.0
