I am previous Shell energy customer was moved to Octopus but can’t change until August 45 day window. Or £150 exit fee. Is there any way to get round this or will any energy companies buy out my exit fees to switch? With Shell the price went down in summer but since this former shell tariff I am due to pay £50 cheaper but they want me to pay exit fee meaning any saving is non existent?

You took the chance on a fixed tariff, entirely your choice, so you are pretty much stuck with the consequences.  I don't believe any suppliers are currently buying out exit fees.  Will Octopus not switch your tariff and waive the fee ?

No should I ask that question? Well the issue was energy was so high I was told there was no deals and switching became pointless to be honest I had fixed trariffs before but Shell put the price down in the summer so perhaps I was ignorant to that and expected the same?

Answers I have seen them give on X indicate they will not waive exit fees for former Shell customers, worth bearing in mind many Octopus customers are on fixed tariffs taken out June 23 - January 24ish with exit fees which Octopus will not waive to change tariff.

@gadget88 Have you done your sums ?  Saving more than £150 during the summer when there's no heating is a big ask -  I certainly won't even use half of that £150 .
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

Have you considered Octopus' time-of-use tariffs? Big savings to be made on both Tracker and Agile. No special kit required.

It's where the price is different depending on what time of day you use the energy.

Being at home a lot makes it easier for you to do that.

Both tariffs track the wholesale price. Tracker aggregates the half-hourly prices into one price for the day, so you don't need to avoid the peak times. Agile prices change every half-hour (you get the days prices the previous afternoon) but are loaded up at peak time (16:00 to 19:00) to encourage load shifting.

Tracker tends to come out about 15-20% below the SVT, Agile 20-30% below (if you can avoid the peak). and, yes, sometimes you get paid to use electricity on Agile. Again, you'll know the day before, so you can plan ahead to use as much as possible.
