Missing phone mount after service

Bit of an odd one perhaps, but not sure if there is anything I can do... I took my bike for a service, which has a phone mount on the handlebars. I collected the bike and took it home, but not until later I realised it was missing the phone mount. Called the service centre who said they checked and it's not there, and that they do not touch the handle bar area as part of the service (basically saying not them). It is not in my car which I transported it with either, shame I didn't notice when collecting. I can fork out for a new one, but it's bugging me! Given they are avoiding any responsibility I might go elsewhere too next time, but not sure if it's worth pushing further. The mount is £20 but I feel this is bad customer service, almost making me feel like I'm making it up, or am I expecting too much. Thoughts?

For £20 vote with your wallet and just go elsewhere next time and let them know in a non-snide way.
Maybe a junior there took it off without instruction or maybe it somehow came off before you dropped it off and you equally didnt spot it as you didnt spot it missing as you didnt when collecting it.2 -
and that they do not touch the handle bar area as part of the service
I wouldn't be going there again, a very important area to be checked on a service.

Quite. Forget the phone holder, how have they managed to service the brake and gear mechanisms, replace the cables, etc. without touching the handlebars?molerat said:and that they do not touch the handle bar area as part of the serviceI wouldn't be going there again, a very important area to be checked on a service.

If they have CCTV, you could ask them to check if it is visible on the bike when you dropped it of. If you come at it from the angle that you can't be sure if didn't drop off as you were loading the car, rather than trying to show them up, they might check the footage, but you are then reliant on them being honest.
If it did get knocked off, it might have been run over and reduced to a collection of plastic shards which you might find evidence of if you look. The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.1 -
Was it bolted on or just some kind of snap fit? If just a snap fit, it could have come off when they were working on the bike, or have been loosened and fallen off when loading into the car. It seems unlikely that somebody would nick it, but obviously not beyond the bounds of possibility.

Thanks for the feedback all, it's was a bolt on mount and what they meant when they said don't touch the handlebars, is they don't touch that area (middle), but obviously touch the brakes etc for servicing. I have given up asking them and will buy a new one, and probably look elsewhere next time.Mortgage Free Wannabe Light Bulb Moment (Early 2012, started May 2012)

I always remove any attachments or accessories that I've fitted myself before putting my bike in for a service2

If you are anything like me then approximately 2 milliseconds after buying the new item, on a no returns, no refunds basis, you will remember exactly what happened the old one and where it is.20vt-rs said:I have given up asking them and will buy a new one, and probably look elsewhere next time.
I don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!1 -
Yes I wish I had! How far do you take it, remove mounts and also bottle cages? The mount is easy to take off, but it's a bit time consuming having to take bottle cages off as well. Will definitely take the mounts off next time.Okell said:I always remove any attachments or accessories that I've fitted myself before putting my bike in for a serviceMortgage Free Wannabe Light Bulb Moment (Early 2012, started May 2012)
