Potential scam- letter for unpaid parking charge

Hello,

Looking for some help/advice please. On 10/05/24 I received a letter for debt recovery of a unpaid parking charge to the value of £170 from Direct Collection Bailiffs Ltd. They are claiming I didn't pay for a ticket/ payment permit for Euro Carpark in January 2020!  I have tried to contact Euro carpark head office and the local carpark in question but with no joy. The car they have referred to I no longer have as it was lease hire. The PCN they have referenced is 11 digits so is showing its not valid. They have stated I am unable to appeal the parking charge and failure to pay will result in legal action and I will need to take them to court to query the charge. They have also given me 14 days from the date on the letter (30/04/24) to pay which means I would need to pay today.

Do I need to pay or ignore this?

Please help a panicked mum!

P.s I have read the newbie thread but I'm still confused

Disregard and file the debt collectors letters, debt collectors are powerless

    Its an artificial fake deadline

It is not a scam letter, but needs no action from you

Do I need to pay or ignore this?
Hundreds of threads like yours. This is normal stuff for parking firms. Obviously ignore it as long as you don't move house. You MUST see all the letters.

Hmmm...if you are saying you knew nothing about this PCN then maybe ECP were using an old address given to them in 2020 by the lease hire firm?

If that's the case you MUST REPLY telling DCB to erase the old address.  You CANNOT leave an aggressive firm with 2 addresses as they'll revert to the old one if you do not confirm your proper address for service of a court claim.

Of course you don't pay. No ringing them.

Come back when you get a LBC.

You'll win but you MUST get any old address 'erased'. Email DCB. Use that word 'erase'.

PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Sorry if this is obvious .... but have you provided them with your current address for service of any future correspondence?

So many people don't receive 1st/2nd pcn but the £170 payment due letter often manages to drop through letter boxes. PPCs always claim discounted/full rate pcn/court claim letters were sent though offer no evidence to prove this. A letter's issue date is not it's sending date nor does it prove the letter was sent.

Since PPCs CHOOSE NOT to provide evidence of their posting date and delivery we must continue to press gov to ensure they do. Please sign/share these petitions.

Immediately Reintroduce Private Parking Code of Practice. https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/660922

Thanks. Hope that pcn gets cancelled.
