Hanging / Nailing Kent Peg Roof Tiles

Hi all,
When we moved into our house a few years back, the previous owner had left a load of clay roof tiles in the back garden. I think they are old Kent peg tiles. We're in the South East.
Traditionally, these would have been hanged over the batten using wooden pegs.
I'd like to create a new wood store, and roof it using these peg tiles.
But, what pegs should be used? Is it best practice to simply use galvanised or copper nails?
I've seen another forum on a different site. The guy was using the original battens (19mm by 38mm), and was having trouble finding the right nail length – enough length to hang on the 19mm batten, but not so much as to risk piercing the new membrane behind (though, I won't use a membrane, as it's just a wood store). And having trouble finding the right thickness – thin enough to accout for the differences in peg hole size, but thick enough that the weight of the tile wouldn't angle the nail too much when hanged on the batten.
Would probably use 25mm by 50mm batten anyway, frankly.
Any thoughts? Anyone with experience out there?

Use aluminium pegs. You can get blunt end ones, but as you're not having a membrane it's not an issue. Did a job in Sussex years ago where sheep's teeth had been used on the original build.1

Yep, these ones:

Wow, that's quite something. Perhaps they were stronger than the wooden pegs they used to us.0 -
Teeth will outlast timber as long as you don't put sugar on the roof.1

Haha, well exactly!0
