Winter Fuel Payment

My birthday falls in December 1957, I am now a pensioner, SP in payment since January. I assumed I would receive the winter fuel payment this year but it looks like I will not get anything until 2025. Is it something I will have to apply for or will it be paid automatically. TIA.

    It is paid automatically.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

For 2023 payment you had to have been born before 25th September 1957

I would have thought that you would qualify for the 2024 payment.

Qualifying birth date will be around the same time but the year will be 1958

I missed my first anticipated WFA thanks to being born at 12:45 am the day after I was due.  My due date was the cut off date!  I told my mother she should have pushed harder as she had cost me £200 that first winter I was on SP.  Disqualified by just three quarters of an hour.  LOL!

Good point.  The current info on gov.uk is evidently still for winter 23/24 ("The amount you get includes a ‘Pensioner Cost of Living Payment’. … You’ll get this extra amount in winter 2023 to 2024.) https://www.gov.uk/winter-fuel-payment

I'm not sure when they update it for the coming winter.

I can't lay my hands on the legislation at present but I believe that the qualifying date is specified as being the last Monday in September,  in which case we'd be looking at 30th September 2024 as being the cut off for this coming winter.

    This?

"“qualifying week" means in respect of any year the week beginning on the third Monday in the September of that year;"
