Whilst updating myself on current Student Finance matters I noticed the following on the MSE site:

moneysavingexpert.com/students/student-loans-repay/

Graduate Ivor Gudjob has £10,000 of student loan debt at 5.5% interest. He's debt-free and has £5,000 saved up. His choices are putting the money towards his loan, or saving it in an account paying 6%.

Easy calculations show that repaying the loan saves him £550 a year, but saving earns him £600 a year, so he's better off saving.

If my rudimentary maths still holds good, saving £5000 for 1 year at 6% would return £300 not £600!

and of course, on the other side of the coin paying off £5000 of the loan would save him only £275 over the year.

Not to mention the apparent oxymoron:
Ivor Gudjob has £10,000 of [student loan] debt at 5.5% interest. He's debt-free...

Perhaps inserting the word "otherwise" before debt-free would help.
