The correct process is for the payment to be chased via the remitting bank, ie the purchaser’s solicitor’s bank. They will have the data and reference numbers and should be able to send a secure message to the beneficiary bank via the beneficiary bank’s agent to expedite the payment.1 -

A slight aside, but a financial institution doesn’t need to be based in the UK to have access to CHAPS. There are a handful of overseas banks with direct access and I’d be very surprised if there aren’t a sizeable number with indirect access.
