Parcelforce additional charge

I am looking for advice I recently booked a very large parcel through parcels2go. On their app I specifically put in all the dimensions (184x94x13 +29kg). It recommended Parcelforce as the courier. I duly bought the service and packed up my parcel. Yesterday I received an email saying my parcel exceeded the limits and would have to pay a £105 excess as I breached overall length and girth, their measurements saying it was 402cm not the 396cm I stated. When I emailed Parcel2go they said that I breached the length plus width combined length of 250cm (which the app didn’t mention and neither  did the initial email). As The app would let me buy a service for my parcel of 396cm combined but wouldn’t let me buy a service if over 400cm combined are they at fault or am I? I refused the parcel when it arrived this morning and the parcelforce man knew nothing about charges and I re measured it my dimensions were correct
How do I proceed?

     dimensions (184x94x13 +29kg).

How does that add up to 396?

    184 + 94 + 94 + 13 + 13 = 398
What were the actual dimensions ? I doubt they were exactly 184 x 94 x 13 - so a fraction over would easily add the extra 4.

250 is the max length, whoever wrote that was obviously confused.

  • Had an interesting size issue with a parcel just recently on Parcel2Go. After selecting the drop shop option, and my usual drop off shop, i bought a label and duly carried it to the shop (i'm a one man band and don't drive) to discover the shop had a package size limitation and they couldn't accept mine as it was too big (My parcel is 64 x 55 x 19 cm and the shop max they said was 60 x 50 x 50 cm). Had a nice chat with Parcel2Go rep about the issue on the live chat app on the website later (very good i found, got thru to an agent quite quickly) and they offered me an upgrade to a collection serivce with a courier called DX, which sounded great!. Unfortunately, they never arrived, so have cancelled the original label and done a new order thru P2G using Parcel Force, pick up tomorrow, so lets hope 3rd time lucky!

Had a similar issue where my Parcel was ruled oversized by Parcel Force after using Parcel2go.

My wife who is a Maths teacher and double checked my measurements was not impressed. They ended up covering the additional charge of £8 as a "gesture of goodwill" as they thought there maybe some discrepancies in the parcel sizes between what services they offer and what Parcel Force accept.

I've had issues with DPD drop off shops that have refused parcels.  They have apparently decided on their own arbitary size limits which exclude parcels that are larger even though the dimensions are acceptable for DPD.   It is understandable that very small shops can have insufficient space for larger parcels, but they really should not offer a drop off service if that is the case.  I've found a fairly local drop off shop that does not quibble over the size and they get all of my parcels now - large or small.
