Audi Dealership Issue

Hi,

I purchased an Approved used Audi Q2 last September, the MOT was due in March this year. I asked the dealership if they would MOT the car before purchase, but they said they only do this if less than 6 months left on MOT, but offered me a free MOT test when due. As Audi boast about their 150 point checks, I wasn't too concerned.

However, come March and the car passed the MOT with the following advisories.

Monitor and repair if necessary (advisories):

Nearside Front Tyre slightly damaged/cracking or perishing (5.2.3 (d) (ii))

Nearside Rear Tyre slightly damaged/cracking or perishing (5.2.3 (d) (ii))

Offside Rear Tyre slightly damaged/cracking or perishing (5.2.3 (d) (ii))

I can't help thinking that the cracks were there when I purchased the car, but it's difficult to prove. If the car had been MOT'd at the time, I wouldn't have bought the car without the tyres being changed.

The previous MOT only showed a tyre close to Legal Limit, which was replaced.

Do you think I have cause to complain? The car has only covered 2000 miles between purchase and Mot, although I realise that cracking is not totally dependent on mileage.

Has there been a change to the MOT in regards to listing Advisories on tyres?

Many Thanks

Martin

Some MOT testers pick up on minor cracking, some don't, it's fairly subjective.

It's something you could have spotted before buying and negotiating so I don't think you have any cause to complain now.

    How old is the car?
Been sat around a lot, which is not good for tyres.

Did you not notice this when checking car on pick up?

These are just advisories, and almost certainly your tyres will be fine until they are worn out. Certainly the fronts.

I had the same advisories on my old van every year for about 15 years. They are the opinion of the tester, you'd get different advisories at a different garage.

If the tyres were legal at the time of purchase they were never going to change them and they were well within their right to refuse to MOT it at the time....just like you  could have walked away.

I bought a used Toyota 2 months ago not due for MOT til next year. I did notice f two fronts were close to limit but felt that they would argue that my part ex probably needed 4 new tyres so called it quits

My tyres are 3 years old with 5,000 miles on them.
I got the same mot advisories.
Last year. As they have 6mm tread I will wait until they fail the mot or have 3mm tread.
New eco tyres, great for the environment, bad for the consumer.
A garage told me they would not mot a car unless it was under 6 months.
I said ok, got up and was walking out when all of a sudden they changed their mind.
Loose a car sale over £40 mot.

I think people are overthinking this the advisories were

Nearside Front Tyre slightly damaged/cracking or perishing (5.2.3 (d) (ii))

They can be for any of the faults listed
So they could be for slightly damaged tyres
This would include minor cuts that do not expose the cords, a possible cause of this could be unknowingly running over a foreign object (glass)
So possibly not present when vehicle sold
