It's worth mentioning that with Tusker, the BYD dolphin is £433 a month for year 1, £438 for year 2 and £443 for year three so £15768 for three years with everything included. Considering the dolphin can be had for £11969 for three years on pcp with two years free servicing it does make me question the value of Tusker. Seems to be all over the place.
Or the lease cost for 3 years is half the outright purchase price of the car

  • I think it's half the purchase price of the design model, the"nicer one". The actual one on tusker is the comfort version, so the one that's a grand cheaper! I suppose although slim, there is a chance of some equity being left in the car at the end of the term 🤷‍♂️.

It's what you find with leasing cars. Some deals are worth it and some aren't - depending on how cheaply they get the car and the margin they factor in. They may get an offer of a few at a time on a good deal, particularly if the manufacturer wants to bump up registrations at the end of a period.

They also vary quite a bit, almost on a daily basis. That's how you play it to your advantage - pricing should be similar across different payment methods, but you find an anomaly where it varies and pick the method which advantages you.

I have a leaf coming to the end of a 3 year lease. The lease company gave me a quote, valid for 30 days. I shopped around, discovered it was better than anything else, went back to them almost a month later and they honoured the quote.

Have you looked at an Ariya? I've been keeping an eye out with a view to what happens after my lease ends and have seen an Ariya on lease around £280 per month for 10k miles. That's with a 6 month deposit however.

Reviews I've read of BYD cars are positive - but I've seen some warnings to check insurance. Chinese cars are still a bit of an unknown for repairing and insurers are pricing that uncertainty in.
  • Yeah that's a good shout about the Chinese car insurance. If I got insured for a year right now it would cost £500. That's business and personal. The Tusker agreement is business and personal, plus any maintenance, tyres, windscreen cracks etc. Another good point is if you're made redundant you can just walk away unlike a pcp agreement.

Yeah I've had a look at the ariya, it gets pricey once I start sticking business etc on there.
