I suspect dodgy copy as well

the whole PC is compromised as it stands due to those 016 entries with numbers in, I only hope they do not do online banking, shopping etc as their credit card details are probably in the hands of an eastern european hacker.

the only way to clear this up properly if it is a dodgy copy is to buy a legit one and fully update to SP2 etc

In that case I would definitely update Windows via the Microsoft Website.

Or you can pick up SP 2 disks via PC World etc

If your system is working fine after following Browntea's advice you shouldn't need to to a complete system restore.

I'm sure that pchelpman has stated that the infections need to be removed before updating to SP2. I believe that you need a clean system before it will update correctly anyway.

  • so is the best course of action to fix the ones mentioned on the log then download from microsoft site the sp2 version which clears any issues i have on 1 already

If it is a legitimate copy of XP, why has it not been updated to SP2 via on-line updates?

once we have done the hijack this clean, and then the malware removal, the bit at the end tells you how to do windows updates, which will do SP2 and bring you up to date

I'd leave the SP2 updates until the end
