You can use whatever cartridges you want - it's your printer - if there is a warranty it may invalidate this, but I'd be surprised.

I have heard this before. I don't have an HP printer anymore but mine failed after it suddenly wouldn't register any black refills and HP  refused to help even though it was only just out of guarantee. I refuse to buy any HP products because of that. I think I had bought their own ones but can't be sure because it was quite a while ago.

i use non original cartridges in my HP printer and they work fine.  Refilling for me is a bit too much hassle for me as I used to do it years ago with a Canon printer.

I had to stop using the HP ones as they were getting way too expensive.

I've heard that some modern printers will only work with cartridges that have manufacturer's chip inside.

Fairly standard stuff. now for the big printer players to try and stop you using compatibles.

When you install the printer initially, it sneakily asks do you want to allow firmware updates.
If it's a network/ wireless printer, it'll connect up to the manufacturers website on a periodic basis and download and install the update without any interaction from anyone.
If it's a usb printer, it's the software that you've installed on the pc that will drive the updates.
The main purpose of these updates is to make your compatibles obsolete.

I've seen many's a laser printer toner being dumped after these sneaky little updates.
As far as I know, there's no easy way to revert back to a previous version of the firmware.

Clearly the printer is communicating with HP and I wouldn't be surprised if it failed to print

There was an issue with customers in the USA being restricted to using HP consumables but that restriction never applied in the UK. My wireless laserjet printer works fine with compatibles.

Irrespective of the email, do the cartridges work?
