Online insurance quote

Options
I have been completing online insurance quotes for a rental property I have. All companies I contacted gave me a quote bar 1, who said my property was high risk being to close to water and was declined. No previous flooding.

Will this decline of a quote, have an impact on getting insurance? Do I have to declare it?

You should declare if insurance has been refused, but this normally refers to a different situation, where your existing insurer withdraws cover or refuses to renew. Your situation is that the property is not of a type that the insurer chooses to offer cover for, so they have declined to quote, and I don't think it's necessary to declare it.

I would be interested in what others think,. though.

You might want to have a look here, too.

No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

No, its a decline to quote, not a cancellation of a policy or refusal to insure. You don't need to decalre it for anything.

It will depend on EXACTLY what the wording of the question is on the online system for a policy with another company: I'm no expert but 99% certain they won't all be identical...

If you had to declare any insurer who declined to quote, that would leave everybody who has ever used one of the comparison sites in a pickle - as there are always a bunch of insurers at the bottom of the table who don't want your business.
