PIP Renewal Appeal question

If I win my PIP appeal does the tribunal award start from the point that the renewal was returned or the decision date which was a year later? or does the award start from the date that the tribunal makes its decision?
What I am trying to understand is the possible likelihood that after the appeal I will be due for renewal again. My last award was for 4 years and the one I am disputing is until 2027. Is this something that the tribunal would consider as part of the process?

Normally with a renewal the change takes affect on date of decision, but there have been cases where a DM has backdated it when renewal returned. Not sure a tribunal having done this, but is might be possible. It will certainly not be the date the tribunal makes the decision.
Is part of your appeal about the length of your award? If not I doubt they will get involved as a 4 year award isn't short for PIP.

Any new award by a tribunal is backdated to the disputed decision date.
(Remember at tribunal the panel will be considering your condition / abilities as at the decision date)
The panel can make a recommendation about the award length but this is not binding on the DWP. If you wish them to do this, you need to explain why a longer award is appropriate in your tribunal submission.

Thanks both. I was more concerned about being given a reduced award time and then having to immediately go through the process again straightaway. Does this happen to some people? if the DWP is giving me 4 years then are the tribunal likely to give me two for instance?I'm Ever hopeful!:j:j:j:j0

But generally appeals are about the cessation / denial of an award. So there is no DWP award, and thence no award term.
Are you appealing for an increase in the level of your award?

Yes an increase from standard mobility to enhanced, it is nothing to do with the length of the award. I am happy with the 2027 renewal date. I am not going to be happy if they reduce the duration though but I guess that is the risk I am taking by going to appeal.I'm Ever hopeful!:j:j:j:j0

I recently had my appeal award backdated to when my review form was received. The decision took over a year and then I appealed, so it would have been very unfair to apply from the decision date. I put a paragraph on the appeal submission requesting this.1
