Transferred money to closed credit card by accident

Hi,
I transferred money from my Halifax Current Account to my old Halifax MasterCard account by accident. The MasterCard account was closed 5 years ago. Both accounts are with Halifax and in my name.
This happened on Wednesday last week. I have contacted Halifax and I am getting conflicting answers as what to to do.
Any ideas what might happen? The accidental transfer was made on Wednesday.
Thank you

since the account number and sort code are valid then the payment will go through and not immediately bounce back
however the reference field ie the credit card number is incorrect so I would imagine it will stay in the Halifax account until it is sent back to you1 -
Thank you. That explains why it's not bounced back yet.km1500 said:since the account number and sort code are valid then the payment will go through and not immediately bounce back

Who are you speaking to at the Halifax? At a lot of banks credit cards are dealt with by a different team, so since the credit card department have your money you need to speak to them, not the bank account department (I don't know whether Halifax have different contact numbers).adamL said:

If you sent the money on Wednesday, they've only had two working days to deal with it. Someone probably has to manually work through all the incorrect payments, so two days isn't unreasonable and I wouldn't worry just yet.0
