Fleet Purchase Discounts
I've long been jealous of the generous discounts company car fleet buyers receive. AFAIK they buy cars for little over the cost of manufacture, leaving us individuals to provide the car makers profits. Well now, with the popularity of the moneysavingexpert website, these juicy discounts could be within our reach. What I'm talking about here is individuals who intend to buy a new car getting together and negotiating group discounts.
With a quarter million plus MSE's, there could be, say, 5000 who intend to buy a new car in the next 6 months. If we split those into small, medium and large car buyers, then it's possible we could organise groups of 500 or so people willing to buy each class of car, unconcerned about the make, just wanting the best deal possible. Given this situation, we would be able to contact Ford, Volkswagen, Nissan, etc., and say "We want to buy 500 cars, make us an offer!".
It would take a helluva lot of organizing, but if we can get this to work for cars, it could work for just about anything! Think about phoning up Dell and asking for the price of 1000 computers. Or negotiating the purchase of 300 washing machines with Hotpoint. Or even contacting Thomas Cook and saying "We want to buy 600 package holidays, what's the best price you can give us?". Power to the people!

Wasn't there a webgroup called https://www.everythingscheaperifweallbuyinagroup.com ?
It listed various items, then you selected at what quantity/price you'd buy the product.
Not around any longer, it seems.

If you go through a broker you get pretty much the same discount level as fleets do so no need to organise a massive group buy - the broker in essence has already done that for you.
